Overprotective!Reid: 695
For another, she was pregnant.
Not that one could really tell from the way she acted, hanging around the same kind of bars, the same kind of attitude. Or even a little more pointed, which, well, went along with the whole hormonal thing he'd read about.
But it was different. And Reid was respectful of that. He could tease and joke almost the way he had when they first met, ahem, but it never crossed a line. It would be a bad thing, to cross it, and, well, he could do bad things, ish, but not this kind of them.
On the other hand, there was other fun to be had.
A tiny attractive blonde, even talking with somebody that she obviously knew, at this kind of bar? Attracted... unwanted attention. And while Grace was freaking good at deflecting it - she'd had, oh, all her life to learn - right now it was making her edgy. And Reid just wanted her to have fun. Which meant... taking care of the guys in question. Preventively.
Call it overprotectiveness all you want. He was just making sure they had fun, okay?
Like the fat guy with the surly face who oh so casually was groping the girls he was passing by, pretending it was nothing, nothing had happened, but Reid'd caught how his palm turned to slide against the backside of that red-head, how his face had changed for a moment. And he was heading this way, and, well, no.
The 'nudge' he gave the tray of a waitress passing by the guy didn't even require his eyes to change color. It still slammed into the soft flesh of his chest satisfactorily. Maybe the corner even caught a nipple, and wouldn't that have been nice. Not that Reid was watching; his companion was way more interesting. He still smirked when the guy decided to raise a fuss with the waitress, and then the bouncer loomed behind her, and, well. One patron fewer to worry about.
The black-haired man with silver at his temples across the bar looked respectable. Until Reid noticed that he was concentrating on Grace's animated gestures - and the way they shook her breasts. And he was actually fondling himself, through the trousers, the blond assumed, behind the cover of the bar. Really. In public. Reid felt no sting of guilt when he ducked his head and the kid walking past that an with a glass of icy water tripped and spilled the contents over his crotch. No sting of guilt whatsoever.
The guy who was probably Reid's age who passed three times to ask random stuff and lean closer and closer every time? The fourth time he started in their direction, the bar chair behind him moved, just so, and hit the side of his ankle enough that he was limping still when he left, a quarter of an hour later.
And then there was the guy who tried to literally push Reid aside and take his seat with Grace.
Reid really, really didn't like bullies.
The book sent flying when somebody two tables over tripped when getting up so her bag swung? Hit the the bulky man right in the crotch.
Grace did snicker.
She made a face, later, as he was driving her home, all safe and sound. "That bar was almost boringly well-behaved, you know."
"Nah." The glint in the blue eyes? He had the suspicion that she read it, anyway. "Just a slow night. It'll probably be back to normal when you get back there."
"Did you have anything to do with that? Somehow?"
"Me? Why would I ever want to deprive you of your fun?"
"Hngh." She crossed her arms, not very satisfied with that.
When he pulled up in front of the not-that-big house that belonged to her husband, he leaned over and kissed her cheek before she got out. "Hey, stay safe, alright?"
"I always do!" Still grumpy, if a little softer.
"Yeah, but... just an extra bit, for me?"
"Fine."
She did slam the door. But that was okay.

"Well... yeah. Something like that. What about it?" Grace shifted. She seemed irritable, but otherwise fine. And a little bit showing. It was... interesting. Ahem, considering their shared memories and him poking at stuff he was going to be studying in med school.
"So. I can hang around with either of your brothers deciding that it's safer for all to try and shoot me?"
She snorted. "They wouldn't've."
"Yeah? I'd rather not find out you're wrong about that with a bullet in my asscheek."
"Oh, come on."
"What, you think either of them would've missed? Even a tightly packed target as this one is?"
That actually got her to chuckle. "Okay, not really. They've both hot much smaller targets."
Reid pouted. They laughed and talked a bit more; she made coffee which he inhaled in a manner that she commented would probably impress even her twin; he shrugged that off and asked for more. Eventually, he kissed her cheek and took his leave, wishing her all good things and to take care and a healthy baby and all that.
It wasn't until he left that she started finding the little things he'd hidden around the house. And he'd cheated about some of them, but she couldn't exactly know that. It was a bit like a treasure hunt around Chuck's house, and it drove her a little nuts... and at the same time, amused her not a little bit.
A few of the things he'd hidden were little baubles - or gift cards for things to treat herself with, shopping or spa or books; privilege of rich boys to give presents at a whim. Some were little ridiculous notes with jokes or outrageous stories, the kind that he tended to tell.
The last one she found was a note the corner of which was poking between a couple of loose boards. It read,
and, you know. If you ever want to just hang around with somebody for the laughs and shit, or shoot a bit of pool with somebody who you don't know all the tricks of by heart already... feel free to call.
